The Complete Guide to Web Animation

Animation is one of mankind’s enduring dreams (if we are to believe some historians). This theory arose from the study of cave paintings: in some of them we commonly see creatures drawn with too many limbs.

This is explained by two different theories. Some believe that prehistoric artists simply had nothing to erase their failed limbs, and thus immortalized their mistakes on the walls for posterity. Others believe that these were the earliest attempts to convey the appearance of motion in a still image. I lean towards the second theory.

Is there anything more natural than the desire to capture movement? Everything in nature moves. People walk, water flows, plants grow, the only thing that is really constant in nature is change, in the form of movement. Some changes happen usa phone number data in an instant, others are so slow that you don’t even notice that anything is moving. Yet they still happen.

Animation is no longer new to web designers…it’s becoming the foundation of effective interactive design.

Animation is change, and movement

When we want to capture life in our works, we probably get the closest topic cluster topic clusters to this goal with animation. That’s probably why people always say something like “animation brings life to our websites (or presentations, or something else)”. This phrase is probably overused, but it elegantly expresses the purpose of animation in web design.

It is the illusion of movement

Applied correctly, that tells users that they have actually done something. They successfully interacted with the interface and caused something to change.

It triggers the same feelings (or at least very similar feelings) in them as when they interact with physical objects. The animation is kind of skeuomorphic [1] . You’re right, I said a profanity.

But when used properly, animation is meant to mimic real-world interactions. In a way, we’ve come full circle and gone back to where we once were. We probably won’t be by lists using leatherette textures nearly as much, but we’ll still try to imitate the real world.
