DTU set a new world record in data transfer in July.
It happened in Lyngby, but before we look at what the speed is, we just need to get a handle on the bits.
These are some staggering numbers they deal with at DTU.

Megabit, gigabit, terabit, petabit..
Most of us are probably most familiar with Mbit from our own internet connection.
It is usually in the range of 10-1,000 Mbit we use in Denmark, depending on denmark phone number data whether you have a normal broadband connection or whether you have a fiber network connection.

43 Terabits per second!
In Lyngby sits the High-Speed Optical Communications group (HSOC) at DTU Fotonik, which currently holds the world record. Before they achieved this result, it was the Karlsruhe Institut für Technologie that held the record, which is somewhat lower: 26 terabits per second.
However, still enough to blow most people away. You will be able to download a DVD film in HD of approx. 0.5 second
but now it will be possible to do it in 0.2 seconds at DTU in Lyngby!

The DTU researchers’ record is based on a new type of optical fiber. It is a fiber developed by the Japanese telecom giant NTT. This has seven cores (glass threads), where ordinary fibers only have one core. it makes it possible to transfer huge amounts of data simultaneously.
Despite that, the seven-core fiber takes up no more space than regular fiber.

DTU has broken the record before
It is actually not the first time that DTU has broken powder data the record for data transmission.
In 2009, they were the first to achieve a terabit connection. That is 1,000 gigabit (or 1 million Mbit!).
