Chat in Yandex search: detailed setup algorithm using JivoSite as an example

Chat with a company in Yandex search results has been functioning since the end of April 2018, that is, exactly one year at the time of writing. There are still ongoing disputes about this innovation – some consider the tool to be really useful for website promotion, while others criticize the chat for many shortcomings. Let’s try to understand the pitfalls, benefits and potential harm to business of this feature.

Algorithm of chat operation in Yandex

Time passed, and Yandex decided to test-launch a chat in its own search engine. The function looks very similar to the one that Google implemented at the time, but it is fundamentally different from it:

  • To connect the chat, registration was initially required on the third-party resource JivoSite.
  • You can ask a question online and start a conversation with an operator right in the search engine, because the button “Chat with the company” or “Online consultant” is now displayed right in the company snippet. After clicking on the button, a compact window with a chat appears in the lower right europe cell phone number list corner of the screen. Just ask your question and get an answer as quickly as possible!
  • In addition to the button, in September 2018 a large block was added to the right of the search results, which displays all chats with organizations for a specific request.

    To get on the list, it is not necessary to be in the TOP-10 in the search results, it is enough to occupy no lower than 30th place for the search query and no lower than 10th among all companies that have connected the chat.

    In some cases, the block may not be displayed – this depends on the request and the number of resources using the online consultant function.

Connecting chat on the JivoSite platform

Please note that at the time of writing this article, there are many other services besides JivoSite that can be used to display an online chat in the Yandex search results page. Among the most famous and widespread are Talk-Me, Verbox, Bitrix is offshore software outsourcing the right move for you? and other providers. Yandex informs that it is open for cooperation, so the list is constantly being updated. You should additionally check with the developers about the implementation of this function by a particular platform.

We will tell you about connecting the chat via the JivoSite platform. This is explained by the fact that most companies use this consultant, and to install the chat you must already be an authorized user on JivoSite.

The Live Site has a basic version with a free tariff (for which you can connect up to 5 operators) and a professional version with an additional fee of 592 rubles per operator per month. There is also a corporate version, the cost of which is calculated individually.

So, connecting the chat will require using the Yandex.Dialogs service and the JivoSite platform. First, let’s look at the work on the “Live Site” side, and then in Yandex.

Here we need to take very few actions. The algorithm looks like this:

  1. For all subsequent actions, you will need a Yandex mailbox. If you do not have one yet, first create an email.
  2. Go to the Yandex.Webmaster website located at https://webmaster.yandex.ru/ . Add your company’s website to which powder data you want to connect the online chat. In the left side menu, in the Settings tab, select Access Rights. Confirm your rights to the website by adding a meta tag to the <head> section. Make sure that the confirmation was successful. 
  3. You will need another service from Yandex called “Yandex.Directory”. The link to it is https://yandex.ru/sprav/main . Add your organization if you have not done so yet. Write the name of the company, contact information (phone, website, social networks), working hours. Indicate whether your company has an offline point. If yes, mark the address on the map. Specify the type of activity. Click the “Add organization” button.
